I love shooting these.
Most of the time I'm the quiet one at the edge of a room. Put a camera in my hand at a rockabilly show and something flips. I'll walk up to a stranger in a leopard-print dress and ask for a frame, and they say yes, and for thirty seconds we make something together.
Frankton Thunder is a good one for it. The pin-up competition, the hot rods, the flame-throwing car, a kid in sunglasses who's cooler than I'll ever be. Bands all afternoon. Best dressed of every age lined up on the stage.
The bit I like most comes later. Sending the photos through and hearing back. Someone seeing themselves the way the crowd saw them that day.
