Kari and Lexi are friends who read.


We went to the stream in the early evening with a rough plan and not much else. Start in the light, keep going until there wasn't any.


Most of what happened came from the three of us trying things. Water poured through hands. Lying back in the current. Standing out on the rocks while the river moved past.


Then the light went, and they lit the candles they'd brought.


By the end, the only light on the rock was theirs.
