Most people come to a shoot like this braced for it. Rachel did too. You can't photograph your way past that, you just wait for the part where someone stops managing how they look and starts existing in front of you.
It happened somewhere in the middle, in the dark frames. No colour, no pretty backdrop, nothing to hide behind. Just a body doing what bodies do when nobody's performing. Those are the ones I keep coming back to.
Then the daisies, and the sheer piece with the hearts. By then she was laughing at something off to the side and I was just keeping up.
I photograph families most of the time. Same thing happens there, the good frame is never the one where they're trying. This was a reminder that it holds true everywhere. Give someone something real to do or feel, then get out of the way.
